FM use on 28.4 Empty FM use on 28.4

I'm curious as to why you chose 28.4 (a recognized calling frequency) for use of your Nets, and in particular why you use FM mode? Your Nets are a continual disruption to other hams and it is my opinion that you are making more enemies then friends with your odd practices. I'm not trolling or trying to create a problem for you as my curiousity is genuine.

In general I agree. When 10-meters was completely dead the use of that frequency was started and the ARRL was asked and agreed that it is a suitable location. As you mentioned, FM was also our concern but they had no concerns.

I am curious why FM is a concern and not AM, as both are wide?

Personally, I would like to move the net closer to 28.3.

As for, why FM...well it is a net to mess with various modes. We would like to include a CW section as well if we could get a good CW net control, likewise with other digital modes. Messing with modes has taught those participating a LOT about the operation of their various rigs, local propagation, antennas etc. No matter if the operator was brand new making their first contact or the operator has been licensed for 50+ years we have all used this net and learned...a lot.

Again, I would vote to move to some other frequency within the Tech portion of the band that is not as popular as 28.400. It is not just because of AM or FM, but because a less popular location would be better.

Actually I changed my opinion. I think the FM and AM section should be around 29.0 +/- some. 29.0 +/- might be nicer on antenna tuners than doing just FM on the simplex frequency at 29.6.

This adds some useful techniques to a technician's skill set as well anyone else and it will be of great benefit over time. Working split is an important for DX on some nets, contests, or DX chasing, and likely good at other times.

Being that the net is designed to help with radio operating skills, working a split, with split modes would really allow attendees to really hone their skills.
